Continuing our series of meet the makers we have Sadie of Shh by Sadie.
Can you tell us a little about what you do?
I’m Sadie and have recently returned to Wales after 7.5 years in New Zealand. I’m a self-taught jewellery designer, and have been creating jewellery as Shh by Sadie for five years. My jewellery has featured in local and international magazines, websites and catwalks – recently it was worn by Kate Nash in her latest video, Good Summer.
How did you get started?
I began teaching myself to make jewellery when I participated in blog swaps approx five years ago – and my addiction grew from there!
Where are you from?
I’m Welsh, born in Newport, and lived there until seven and a half years ago, when I moved to Wellington, NZ. I was lucky enough to return home 2 or 3 times a year to visit family and friends, and home is where my heart has remained!
What’s your favourite part of what you do?
Creating something that you love and have put a lot of care into – and then the proud feeling when someone else loves it too. That’s amazing 🙂
What’s your favourite item to make?
I love my bead loom pieces – they are a labour of love as some of them take 18 hours, but they’re my babies! I love them!
What inspires you?
Colour, pattern, vintage components and travel
What was your proudest moment?
Seeing my necklace in a magazine for the first time.
If you could pass any law what would it be?
That people couldn’t produce cheap, disposable rubbishy products! There’s too much waste in the world!
You can find Sadie on Etsy at any time, and of course she will be with us at Tramshed on the 4th of December with her amazing makes!
